Flying with your cello could be a stressful, daunting and expensive experience. Horror stories of accidents are not uncommon, and in many occasions resulted in expensive repairs or permanent loss of a “loved one.” I have been flying with my cello across five continents for over 20 years<\/span><\/a>. Luckily I have never had anything happened to my cello more serious than a slight shift in the bridge position (knock on wood), and I would like to share with you my experience. In this article, I will show you how to pack your cello properly to minimise probability of damage to your instrument during your travel. To fly with your cello, you basically have two choices: buy an extra seat, or check the instrument as a luggage. For domestic flights, I almost exclusively choose the first option. It is not cheap but still relatively affordable. If someone else is paying for your travel, ALWAYS ask for an extra seat for the cello. (tbc)<\/p>\r\n
